Short answer

  • Regulations: SOLAS II-2/10, FSS Code ch-12, SOLAS II-1/39 and /42, IACS UI SC121/SC245/SC163
  • Location: Emergency fire pump, its seawater inlet, suction and delivery pipes and isolating valves shall be located outside the machinery space; space containing the pump shall not be contiguous to category A machinery spaces or main fire pump spaces
  • Capacity: Not less than 40% of total fire pump capacity, and in any case not less than 25 m³/h for cargo ships of 2000 GT and upwards, 15 m³/h for cargo ships less than 2000 GT; where supplying a fixed water-based fire-extinguishing system for machinery space protection, capacity must be adequate for that system plus two jets of water, each jet not less than 25 m³/h
  • Pressure: Minimum pressure at any hydrant per SOLAS II-2; minimum pressure referred to in FSS Code ch-12 §2.2.1.2 is 0.27 N/mm²
