Bridge: near-coastal Chief Engineer (NCV Class I) into the foreign-going MEO Class II

Official reference: TEAP Part A III/11 Flow Diagram III/11-8 (PDF p.148)

The near-coastal engine ladder joins the foreign-going ladder at MEO Class II: a holder of the NCV Class I (near-coastal Chief Engineer, except tankers) certificate takes the MEO Class II Part B preparatory and simulator courses and the Part B written and oral examinations (Part A passed or exempted) to obtain the foreign-going MEO Class II certificate. The diagram's arrows are not in the text; the joining point is read from the page layout.

Where this comes from

This page is built from the official DGS Training and Examination Advisory Programme (the TEAP manual) and the current orders of DGMA (the Directorate General of Maritime Administration, called DG Shipping until June 2026). Requirements are summarised in plain language — every section links to the official publication for the exact wording. Requirements made under the old Merchant Shipping Act 1958 still apply under the new Merchant Shipping Act 2025.
