Disclaimer

Please read this disclaimer before using Marine One or relying on anything published on it.

1. An independent community and guidance platform

Marine One is an independent community and career-guidance platform for seafarers and for people planning to join the Merchant Navy. Everything published on marineone.org and discuss.marineone.org — guidance pages, course and fee information, salary ranges, the Route Finder and its PDF plans, preparation materials and community discussions — is provided for general guidance and education only.

Nothing on this platform is professional nautical, legal, engineering, medical, financial or immigration advice. For decisions that affect your career, your money, your health or safety at sea, consult the authority or institute concerned and qualified professionals.

2. No affiliation

Marine One is a private platform. It is not affiliated with, authorised by, endorsed by or acting on behalf of:

  • the Directorate General of Maritime Administration (DGMA, formerly the Directorate General of Shipping), Government of India, or any Mercantile Marine Department;
  • the Indian Maritime University;
  • any maritime training institute or approved training provider;
  • any shipping company, ship manager or manning agency;
  • the International Maritime Organization, any classification society, flag-state administration or port-state authority.

Marine One does not issue, endorse or have any authority over Certificates of Competency, Certificates of Proficiency, Continuous Discharge Certificates or any other statutory seafarer document. Eligibility, admission, sponsorship, examination and certification decisions are made solely by the authorities, institutes and companies concerned.

3. Preparation materials are for self-study

Marine One preparation materials — including sample questions for IMU-CET, sponsorship tests, the Marlins test and the CES test — are independent self-study resources written by Marine One. They are not issued, approved or endorsed by any shipping company, manning agency, training institute, examination body or DGMA, and they are not the questions any of them actually set. Using them does not guarantee selection, sponsorship or a pass in any test or examination.

4. Fees, salaries, dates and eligibility

Course fees are taken from each institute's own published website or prospectus on the date stated, and may have changed. Salary figures are ranges compiled from published sources, not offers or official scales. Admission dates are collected automatically from published notices and may be incomplete. Eligibility results from the Route Finder are based on the published DGMA rules as we hold them and are not a decision on your application. Always confirm fees, dates and eligibility with the institute or authority concerned before you apply or pay. Marine One has no commercial arrangement with any institute it lists and receives nothing for listing it.

5. No guarantee of examination success

Completing any course, module or programme on Marine One does not guarantee success in any DGMA written paper, oral examination or other assessment. Results depend on the candidate's own knowledge, preparation and performance.

6. Regulatory and technical accuracy

We make reasonable efforts to keep references to the STCW Convention and Code, SOLAS, MARPOL, MLC 2006, the ISM and ISPS Codes, IMO resolutions, DGMA orders and circulars and other instruments accurate and current. Conventions are amended and DGMA issues new orders regularly, so we cannot guarantee that every page reflects the latest change. The official instrument always prevails over anything published here. Technical information is educational: shipboard operations must follow the vessel's approved manuals, the manufacturer's instructions, the Safety Management System and applicable requirements.

If you find an inaccuracy, please write to [email protected]. We review and correct reported errors promptly.

7. AI-assisted content

Marine One uses artificial intelligence tools to help draft, organise and check content. AI-assisted material may contain errors or omissions and must be verified against official sources before being relied on.

8. Community content

The forum at discuss.marineone.org contains posts and experience reports written by members. We moderate for community standards but do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness or currency of members' content. Oral-experience reports reflect individual recollections; do not treat them as an official syllabus.

9. Institute information

Institute names, approval details and inspection grades come from DGMA publications; fees and course details come from the institutes' own websites. Approvals, fees and contact details change. Verify an institute's approval status on the DGMA website before applying.

10. Third-party links

Links to external websites, including dgma.gov.in, imu.edu.in and institutes' websites, are provided for convenience. Marine One does not control or take responsibility for their content or availability.

11. Availability

Marine One is provided "as is" and "as available". We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free access, and are not liable for loss or inconvenience caused by downtime.

12. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Marine One, its founders, moderators and contributors are not liable for failure in any examination or selection; loss of employment, opportunity or earnings; fees paid to any third party; any decision made in reliance on content published here; any incident arising from applying information found here; or indirect or consequential loss. Marine One's maximum liability, if any, is limited to the amount you paid Marine One for the service giving rise to the claim.

13. Governing law

This disclaimer is governed by the laws of India, and disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts in India.

14. Changes and contact

We may update this disclaimer at any time; continued use of the platform means you accept the revised version. Questions or concerns: [email protected].
